BIO
My childhood, spent among the fields and woodlands of Somerset in the South West of England, ignited a lifelong passion for the natural world. Trees, in particular, held a special place in my heart, with their branches providing the perfect shelter for countless hidden dens. Today, my oils and pastels often draw inspiration from these cherished childhood memories, but most of all, they are my celebration of the magical power of nature to heal and restore both itself and us. Whether it is the thrill of finding the first tentative shoots of Spring, pausing to listen to the rapturous birdsong on a woodland walk or my endless admiration for the dramatic sculpture of winter trees, my work is my tribute to that healing. My passion for nature was further magnified in the deep quality of the silence I found in the rugged mountain landscapes of the Pyrenees, where I lived for many years. A landscape of wonder, of fast changing moods, moments turning in a flash from deep tranquillity to sudden drama. This vastly different landscape was quite a challenge for me as a painter, but I have tried to share some of the wonder that I experienced living among the mountains.
